• Running 39 Miles on My 39th Birthday

If you didn’t already know, running is becoming an obsession of mine. So a few days before my 39th birthday I mentioned to my wife that I wanted to try to run my age in miles. She smiled and said “that’s cool! I think you can do it.” I wasn’t so sure, but her confidence gave me the courage to try. So on June 8th, at 4am, I laced up my shoes and set out to do something big.

  • Living a Long Life

I was listening to RRP 128 (Rich Roll Podcast), an interview with cardiologist Joel Kahn. It was great to actually hear a doctor defend a healthy, nutritious, plant based lifestyle. He discussed the science that backs up the theory that eating unprocessed whole foods is the best thing for health and longevity. He points out that almost all studies on disease find that around 80% of the diseases in our country can be reversed with nutrition and fitness plans.

  • Plant Power Checkin

It’s been 52 days since I started my 90 Day Plant Power challenge so I thought I’d give you an update.

  • From Commuting to Living

Do you commute to work? How long is your commute? I’m a pretty lucky person. I commute into an office only one day a week. Today my commute was over an hour long. It’s about 40 miles, and it’s jam packed with cars. 40 miles of pavement packed with cars chugging away on gasoline, filled with overweight people chugging away on coffee.

  • Choose Yourself

I listened to Choose Yourself!: Be Happy, Make Millions, Live the Dream by James Altucher in December. It was a great book. The premise is that to be successful in life, you need to work on yourself and the rest will fall into place.

  • Plant Power 90 Day Challenge

I love a good challenge. Today I have embarked on a 90 day nutrition challenge. I’m going to eat nothing but plant based whole foods for the next 90 days. That’s no meat, no dairy, no processed foods, no alcohol. I’ve even decided to drop coffee for the first few weeks.

  • Distracted

I’m starting to realize that my family, and I presume the rest of the modern world, is living a very digital existence. Most of our time is spent staring at screens, watching shows, playing games, reading social media, watching youtube etc. The thing is, we are not digital. We are alive! We breath, and think, and enjoy being close to each other. Yet, in our day to day life, we hardly ever unplug.

  • Insights from my Journal

I’ve been keeping a journal since April of 2011. I’m not exactly sure why I started to journal, I can only assume that it originated from a book that I was reading at the time.

  • Rules to Live By

The other day I was thinking about some of the aspects of my life that really fire me up and get me motivated to live with passion. I started writing them down, and eventually made this list :)

  • Paper

I’ve noticed that people are surprised when they see that I always carry pen and paper. I’ve had a Field Notes colors subscription for a couple of years and I rarely go anywhere with out a memo book in my back pocket.
